Pashchima Namaskarasana

Overview

This posture promotes thoracic spinal extension, and intensely lengthens the shoulder joints, pectoral muscles and wrist extensors.​

Nerves which may undergo neural tension:

  • Brachial plexus, mainly ulnar and median nerves

Notes

 

The flexor carpi ulnaris experiences the biggest stretch, especially if it is compromising for tight shoulders.

Precautions & Contraindications

Avoid or modify this posture if experiencing any of the following conditions:

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

  • Low blood pressure

  • Arm injury

  • Wrist, elbow or shoulder injury
